TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Sunday arrested a bar host who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend in Shinjuku Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Sept. 14).

At approximately 3:20 p.m., Ryoji Ando, 26, is alleged to have used a 15-centimeter-long survival knife to stab the head and right part of the chest of his 25-year-old girlfriend in the apartment they share in the Kabukicho entertainment area.

Officers from the Yotsuya Police Station took Ando into custody on charges of attempted murder.

The woman, whose wounds are not considered life threatening, was transported to a nearby hospital.

Ando, who was drunk at the time of the stabbing, according to TV Asahi (Sept. 15), has denied the allegations, telling police that the incident occurred during a scuffle that followed a dispute between the couple.
