HAKODATE (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police on Wednesday arrested a man who has been swindling bar hostesses by claiming to have inside gambling information on fraud charges, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 13).

Officers from the Hakodate Central Police Station took Kazuki Horibe, 33, into custody for defrauding a 28-year-old hostess out of approximately 70 million yen in cash since the end of August of 2010.

According to the victim, Horibe told her that he has an acquaintance who is in professional bicycle racing, or keirin, and payment to him would result in the leaking of information about race results.

The suspect, who used the alias Masaya Seto, told police that he had collected roughly 100 million yen from more than 100 hostesses nationwide in similar ruses.

Horibe had previously been arrested in Tottori and Yamanashi prefectures on the same charges.
