TOKYO (TR) – The mayor of Shibuya Ward earlier this week questioned reports that an inn recently purchased by the ward for use by seniors had been featured in a number of adult video (AV) films, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (June 19).

At a regular assembly meeting on Wednesday, mayor Toshitake Kuwahara said that the coverage was unreliable. “There is a hot spring, and it is appropriate for a rest home,” he said in defending the purchase.

In April, the ward bought the land and buildings of the 3,300-square-meter Kikusuikan hot springs resort, located in the seaside area of Kawazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, for retreats for senior citizens.

A report appearing last month in weekly tabloid Friday indicated that the five-floor structure provided a backdrop in the shooting of at least 11 AV productions by label Moodyz between 2006 and 2013, according to Friday. The films were a part of the label’s “Bako Bako Bus Tour” series.

Kuwahara said that the mayor of Kawazu knew nothing about the alleged shoots. “This reporting is troublesome,” said Kuwahara.

In a screenshot printed in Friday, naked performers can be seen frolicking in the inn’s pool.

Constructed in 1927, Kikusuikan ceased operations in March after enduring financial difficulties.

A budget of 228 million yen was set aside this year for the purchase of the inn — priced, according to Friday, at 110 million yen — and renovation of its buildings, with a target of October for its opening.
