TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced on Tuesday that they will re-arrest popular singer-songwriter Aska on fresh drug-related charges, reports the Asahi Shimbun (June 17).

Aska, 56, a member of the group Chage and Aska, told police that he obtained stimulant drugs from a gang member.

During a search of his home in Meguro Ward, officers seized a glass pipe, powdered stimulant drugs and pills of the drug MDMA, which is known as Ecstasy.

The performer is expected to be charged with violating stimulants control laws regarding possession.

On May 17, officers first arrested Aska, whose real name is Shigeaki Miyazaki, and 37-year-old acquaintance Kasumi Tochinai for possessing stimulant drugs at her apartment in Tokyo in April.

The singer was served with a fresh arrest warrant on May 27 for using stimulant drugs. He had previously tested positive for traces of drugs in his urine and hair.

According to the Yomiuri Shimbun (June 17), Aska told police he began using drugs two or three years ago.
