UTSUNOMIYA, TOCHIGI (TR) – In what police believe is connected to a stabbing incident on Monday evening in Utsunomiya, shots were fired into an apartment early Tuesday morning, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 16).

At around 5:00 a.m., a resident in the Hiramatsu Honcho area called law enforcement to report being awoken by gunfire. Officers from the organized crime unit of the Tochigi Prefectural Police arriving at the scene found single bullet holes in a window of a house and the hood of a car. The 66-year-old male resident of the unit was unhurt.

The incident followed a stabbing on Monday evening, when two members of the Inagawa-kai — aged 44 and 34 — were found with stab wounds to their abdomens at a restaurant parking lot in the Motoimaizumi district.

The male perpetrator in the stabbing fled the scene following the incident. The weapon has not been located.

Police suspect the incidents are related and the result of a gang dispute.
