OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police on Thursday announced that an assistant inspector at the Higashi Sumiyoshi Police Station received gifts from an employee at a fuzoku adult-entertainment club who has been found guilty of violating the Anti-Prostitution Law, reports Sports Hochi (Nov. 28).

Police said the favors were in return for leaking information to the club regarding searches. The inspector, 50, has submitted his resignation.

In February of 2011, the inspector became acquainted with the club employee through an organized crime member who had been previously arrested.

Six months later, the club employee provided the inspector with a meal at a ryotei restaurant in the Minami entertainment district and received “delivery health” sexual services worth a total of 44,000 yen. On three more occasions prior to April of 2012, the inspector was the beneficiary of similar treatment.

“Because I was providing consulting, I did not pay,” said the inspector, who claimed to be giving advice on how to avoid paying protection money to organized crime groups.

The club employee was arrested on prostitution charges in January. He was found guilty in October.

The inspector had joined the Higashi Sumiyoshi Police Station in the fall of 2010. Previously, he had been in charge of an organized crime investigative division of the Osaka Prefectural Police.
