Kanagawa cops bust massive illegal casino in Yokohama

TOKYO (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police on Wednesday arrested the head of a large-scale casino in Yokohama for offering illegal gambling, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 26).

Officers took the main proprietor of G, Kenichi Matsumoto, 56, into custody for operating a casino that provided slot machines and baccarat tables. On June 10, officers raided the casino and arrested the manager and two other suspects.

The establishment occupied 560 square meters on the fifth and sixth floors of a building in Chuo Ward. Since opening in February of last year, G collected 585 million yen in revenue. The operation attracted between 50 and 80 customers each day and employed approximately 60 people.

According to police, G is the largest casino uncovered in the prefecture.

The manager has reportedly admitted to the allegations. “In one day, we averaged 1.5 million yen in profit,” the suspect is quoted by police.
