At around 4:10 a.m., a resident in Tsuru City reported hearing discharges from a gun. Officers from the Otsuki Police Station later discovered multiple bullet holes in the wall of a residence occupied by a member of an organized crime group.
Approximately six hours later, law enforcement was alerted to the sound of gun shots in Fuefuki City. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered bullet holes in a vehicle owned by another organized crime member.
No injuries were reported in either shooting.
Police are attempting to confirm that the incidents are connected to a gangland war, which has included a number of shooting incidents and possibly one suicide, between the Yamanashi-ikka and the Yamanashi Kyoyu-kai organized crime groups.
There have been approximately 20 shooting incidents since last November, when an upper member of the Yamanashi Kyoyu-kai was seriously injured after being shot in the riverbed of the Arakawa River.
