TOKYO (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a beauty salon employee for accepting sex from a teenage girl as payment for a haircut, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 8).

On June 16 of last year, Hiroyuki Matsubara, 29, is alleged to have engaged in sex with an 18-year-old girl at a hotel in Machida City after providing her with a haircut — a violation of child pornography and prostitution laws.

According to investigators, the incident is a first of its kind in the prefecture and considered rare nationwide.

The suspect met the girl, then a third-year high-school student who has an interest in hair styling, two years ago through a friend. It is believed that the couple had sex under the same terms on multiple occasions, officers from the Asahi Police Station said.

In a similar incident that took place in Kanagawa Prefecture last year, also reported by the Sankei, 26-year-old Koji Onai is alleged to have paid for an illicit act with a 12-year-old girl via barter, according to officers from the Taura Police Station.

The couple had previously met through the smartphone application LINE. On August 20, Onai provided the girl, a sixth-year student in elementary school, with an ear piercing session and antiseptic solution (valued at 2,000 yen), in exchange for allowing him to fondle the lower half of her body while inside a parked car in Chigasaki City.
