TOKYO (TR) – A former upper member of a yakuza group was shot by a male assailant on Sunday afternoon at an arcade in Osaka, reports Jiji Press (Mar. 31).

The victim, who was only identified as being a former boss of the Yamaguchi-gumi, Japan’s largest organized crime group, was hit in the left part of his chest by a single bullet fired at around 2:30 p.m. inside a first-floor game center in Higashi Nodamachi, Miyakojima Ward.

The former gangster was then transferred to a nearby hospital. His wounds are not considered serious.

The gunman, who quickly fled the scene, was described as wearing a face mask and white clothing. Osaka Prefectural Police are treating the case as attempted murder and working to determine the assailant’s whereabouts.
