TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced on Friday the arrest of a member of an organized crime group for allegedly for selling a counterfeit Tiffany necklace on an Internet site, reports TV Asahi (Feb. 15).

Kazuo Shimamura, 43, a member of the Yamaguchi-gumi, allegedly sold the fake item to a 38-year-old Tokyo woman last October for 9,500 yen.

According to investigators, a genuine version of the necklace retails for 23,000 yen. She later determined it was counterfeit.

Shimamura has reportedly denied the allegations. “I received it from a friend and then sold it on the Internet. I thought it was real,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Investigators are currently examining whether Shimamura has sold other fake items in the past.
