Ginza club busted for employing illegal Chinese hostesses

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Monday announced the arrest of the female manager of a hostess club and two other suspects in the Ginza district for unlawful employment last month, reports Fuji Network News (Nov. 5).

Officers took two managers of club Hana, 37-year-old Mika Nakayama and a 35-year-old female Chinese national, and one other suspect into custody for allegedly employing foreigners residing in Japan on short-term or student visas — a violation of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.

In January, the suspects are alleged to have employed two Chinese overseas exchange students as hostesses at the club.

Nakayama and the other two suspects have reportedly admitted to the allegations. “If I do not employ young girls, the number of customers will drop,” she is quoted by police.

Nakayama is of Chinese origin. She became a naturalized citizen of Japan five years ago.

According to investigators, the club takes in approximately eight million yen in revenue each month, and, over the past three years, has accrued a total of 300 million yen.
