Ueno hostess club busted for employing Chinese exchange students

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of five employees at a club in the Ueno entertainment area specializing in Chinese hostesses for unlawful employment, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 9).

Officers from the peace preservation division took Yukimatsu Suzuki, the 37-year-old manager of Club Pixie, into custody for allegedly employing three Chinese nationals residing in Japan as students — a violation of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.

According to police investigators, Suzuki has admitted to the allegations. “I was especially looking to employ younger girls to attract customers,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Between June and this month, the hostesses, aged between 19 and 23, were allegedly employed by Suzuki, who recruited the women by placing ads in local publications frequently read by Chinese nationals.

Police investigators also said that Suzuki opened Club Pixie in the name of another person. “If I use a different name, I can open another place quickly if this one gets busted,” Suzuki is quoted. Investigators also plan to charge the manager with additional violations under the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses.
