TOKYO (TR) – Chiba prefectural police today discovered the body of suspected murderer Tomio Ishikawa with a gunshot wound to the head inside a vehicle in Kujukuri Koseki district, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Feb. 16).

On Monday morning, the 65-year-old is alleged to have shot Yoshiaki Furukawa, 62, at the entrance of an outlet of the Denny’s family restaurant chain in Togane City. The injured man went into cardiopulmonary arrest and was airlifted to a local hospital but died before arrival.

Ishikawa fled in a vehicle and had been on the run since.

A phone tip led police to a parking lot, where the suspect’s body found in a blue van parked in a parking lot. Suicide is believed to be the cause of death. A pistol would discovered at the scene.

Media reports said that Furukawa is believed to be a former senior-level member of the Sumiyoshi-kai organized crime group and an acquaintance of the Ishikawa, who police said is likely a former member of the Yamaguchi-gumi, Japan’s largest criminal family.
