TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced on Monday that a corpse discovered in a Chofu City park in April is that of news reporter Eishi Okuyama, reports Nikkan Sports (Dec. 12).

The 62-year-old Okuyama had gone missing from his home in Kanagawa Prefecture in April. According to his agency, Yoshimoto Kogyo, the reporter ceased working in March. In May, his family and agency contacted police.

Okuyama’s body was found hanging in a park toilet in a park in Chofu in April. According to Sankei Shimbun, a DNA test confirmed the reporter’s identity.

Investigators are treating the case as a suicide.

Yoshimoto Kogyo confirmed Okuyama’s whereabouts immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11. He disappeared soon after.

An earlier report from Nikkan Sports says that Okuyama made his debut on Fuji TV in 1982, appearing as a reporter for the program “Your 3:00.”

Update: Yukan Fuji posted a screen grab taken from a section of the TMP site that requests assistance in identification of corpses. The graphic shows running shoes, eye glasses, a yellow cap, and a jacket found on a body discovered in Chofu City. The date of death was estimated to be April 10.
