TOKYO (TR) – Actress and singer Takako Uehara, 28, on Monday filed a lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court against publisher Bungeishunju for libel, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 5).

Uehara is seeking 30 million yen in damages for the publication of her name and photo in an article that appeared in the September 15 issue of the publisher’s tabloid magazine Shukan Bunshun about celebrities and their ties to organized crime.

“Associations with organized crime are not a fact,” the claim read. “To write such a thing is highly regrettable.”

Uehara is best known as a member of the J-pop group Speed.
