TOKYO (TR) – A woman serving a life term for a murder committed five years ago in Oita Prefecture has been arrested for previous robbery and assault violations, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Nov. 16).

Oita police from the Chuomachi Station applied separate charges to convicted felon Yumiko Iwashita, 51, for allegedly hitting an employee at an Oita City love hotel in the face and arm with a hammer in January, 2002 and leaving the premises without paying the 4,670-yen bill. The injuries to the staff member reportedly required one month to heal.

“I don’t feel like talking about the facts,” Iwashita is quoted by police.

After the altercation, investigators retrieved DNA evidence that was left behind in the room. A recent examination determined Iwashita to be a match.

The suspect is currently serving a life sentence in Saga Prefecture for robbing and murdering a former female co-worker at an Oita City business hotel in 2006.
