Gas Panic in Roppongi raided, president arrested

December 6, 2009

TOKYO (TR) – Two establishments within the popular Gas Panic chain of nightclubs were cited by police last month for violation of a national ordinance, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 1).

Police raided club GP Bar and Club 99 in the Roppongi entertainment district of Tokyo on November 29 for operating a nightclub where patrons were allowed to dance, drink and eat in a manner that violated the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses — a nationwide code with sections regarding nightlife activities, one of which prohibits dancing after 1 a.m. without special authorization.

Six arrests were made, including the president, 34-year-old Hidenori Wakita.

Frequented by young people and foreigners, the clubs had been under surveillance for several years, the report says.

GP Bar typically serves 100 guests per evening and collects a monthly revenue of 20 million yen. The chain has two additional outlets in Tokyo’s Shibuya district. (K.N.)

That’s terrible. The owner is one impressive woman. The last manager went on to get remarried and begin a new family. And I have to say that the owner was very kind and good to us foreigners under the company employ. Maybe it was time for the president to be replaced. Hope the club survives and carries on into the future.

I met her once. I agree with your sentiments. I doubt it had much to do with the president. Over the past few years a lot of places in Roppongi have been getting shut. This appears to be the start of a new round of busts.

Here is a general idea of what I mean:
