Carnivorous consumer of young hunks does her shopping in Shinjuku

December 30, 2009

Shukan Asahi Geino Aug. 27A popular neologism in 2009 was nikushoku-kei joshi (carnivorous women). Some such females, of the arafoo (around age 40) persuasion, can sometimes be found trolling for male company in Shinjuku 2-chome, Tokyo’s largest gay enclave.

Divorcee Mie Takeuchi, age 41, is in the habit of heading for 2-chome on evenings before a holiday.

“I like to hang out in gay bars and enjoy the music. And best of all, men don’t come on to me,” the slender, attractive Mie tells Shukan Asahi Geino (Dec. 31-Jan. 7).

It seems that Mie, in the fashion of a true carnivore, is the type who likes to make the first move on a guy. Read more

Shrink seeks causes of males’ flight from sex

December 29, 2009

Sapio Dec. 16“As a person with over 30 years of ongoing experience in sex therapy, the low awareness of Japanese males concerning sexual problems is beginning to set off warning bells.”

Delving into the causes of sexless marriages in an issue of Sapio (Dec. 16) devoted to “Psychoanalyzing Japanese,” clinical psychiatrist Teruo Abe notes that the term “sexless” first began appearing in medical circles in 1991. Now nearly 20 years later, there is little argument that Japanese sexual behavior has undergone major changes.

One of the primary factors in sexlessness is sei ken’aku sho, or Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD), colloquially referred to as sexual aversion — a condition that borders on outright phobia. It may occur in conjunction with other conditions, including organic causes.

Abe has treated 546 patients diagnosed with the aforesaid condition, outnumbering those with other complaints, including erectile dysfunction (332 cases); diminished sex drive (305); pain during sex (138); sexual avoidance (78); spousal estrangement (48); and premature ejaculation (24). Read more

Salons supplying sleaze shuttered across Japan

December 29, 2009

Spa! Dec. 22On a recent visit to Tokyo’s infamous Kabukicho entertainment district, Spa! (Dec. 22) discovered that the typically luminescent Ichiban-gai arch, which hangs above one entrance near Shinjuku Station, was unlit.

The tabloid wonders: Is this how far Kabukicho has sunk? Once Tokyo’s adult playground, the area has hit upon hard times — a trend buffeted by the ongoing recession and law enforcement activities that is sweeping through Japan’s legendary entertainment quarters. Read more

Odious maid cafes put the squeeze on unwary Osaka otaku

December 28, 2009

Shukan Jitsuwa Dec. 31One of the least pleasant words in the Japanese language is bottakuri, which means a ripoff. When the word bottakuri precedes such words as bar, kyabakura, casino club, massage parlor, etc., it indicates places where unwary patrons get taken for a ride.

And now, reports Shukan Jitsuwa (Dec. 31), the maid café can be added to the list of such disreputable establishments in, of all places, Nipponbashi — Osaka’s equivalent of Tokyo’s famous Akihabara Electric Town.

Nipponbashi is no longer the friendly, innocent place it once was — if it ever was.

“Like Tokyo’s Akihabara, this place is a Mecca for otaku (geeks) from Kansai and beyond,” the operator of a maid café tells the weekly from within the electronics wholesale district.

Along a street nicknamed “Ota-dori” (geek street) interspersed with computer shops, girls in maid costumes stand out on the sidewalks soliciting customers. These places had best be avoided. Read more

Tokyo’s dirty old men need love too

December 24, 2009

Nikkan Gendai Dec. 21About five or six years ago, a male pensioner, while seated in a hospital waiting room to see the doctor, was informed by a fellow retired patient about a third-tier, cheapo erotic bathhouse in Tokyo’s Yoshiwara district where the cost of admission ran only 11,000 yen. He promptly began patronizing it, and never fails to pay a visit every other month after his pension payment arrives at his bank.

Now, reports the writer of the series “Heisei soap-gai onna to kane sugoi hanashi” (Fantastic tales of women and money at Heisei-era soaplands) in Nikkan Gendai (Dec. 21), it’s become quite common for elderly men to drop into Yoshiwara for some tender, loving care. Read more

Little progress in ‘black widow’ case, fraud victim still uses matchmaking sites

December 23, 2009

Shukan Post Jan. 1Police are not making substantial inroads in bringing murder charges against suspected “black widow” Kanae Kijima, the 35-year-old arrested for fraud and linked to the suspicious deaths of six men, reports Shukan Post (Jan. 1).

Police are presently building cases for murder around two of the deaths. Thus far, Kijima has been arrested five times for defrauding over a dozen other men, in their 40s and 50s and residing in various prefectures across the Kanto region, after posing as a prospective marriage partner on Internet matchmaking sites. All told she is believed to have collected 100 million yen from her victims.

“The police are trying to make cases for the burn death in May in Chiba Prefecture and the guy in Tokyo who died in a car in August from carbon monoxide inhalation,” a writer specializing in the legal profession tells the tabloid. “However, it is hard to gather evidence against her since she herself has remained silent.” Read more

An unplanned one-night stand on the Orient Express

December 22, 2009

Shukan Bunshun Dec. 24“I’d begun saving up money for one year ahead of time to take a trip to Hokkaido with a close friend aboard a deluxe sleeper train.”

Thus begins a soft porn story that originally appeared in the October issue of Ai no Taiken Special Deluxe, as introduced in Shukan Bunshun (Dec. 24).

Alas, the writer’s friend was forced to cancel abruptly on the day of their departure. Half out of despair, she decided to make the journey on her own.

“Seated by myself in the dining car, I was feasting on a sumptuous dinner and wine, when this older man in a refined Italian suit approached me, saying, ‘Might I invite you to my compartment for a nightcap?’

“Being alone together one thing led to another, and before I knew it we were kissing and started making love. The rhythmic rocking on the rails merged with the beat of our bare bodies, creating the ultimate in erotic moods, even though we hardly exchanged words. Read more

Williams’ return to Tigers possible at midseason

December 21, 2009

Sports tabloid Daily Sports reports that the Hanshin Tigers are investigating the possibility of bringing back left-handed reliever Jeff Williams at mid-season next year.

A fan favorite since joining the Tigers in 2003, Williams, who hails from Australia, had arm surgery after the 2008 campaign and returned this year in a limited role before another operation at midseason. Should the club determine that it will be difficult for him to return as a player, they are also looking at offering him a position as U.S.-based scout.

Williams shared indicated to the tabloid in November that his doctor believed that he should be able to pitch again in May. A senior manager from the Tigers office explains: “We want him to contribute to Hanshin one way or the other. While the language barrier may exist, he has been a role model in our bullpen.” (K.N.)

Sordid goings on behind Fukushima Prison’s gates

December 19, 2009

Nikkan Gendai Dec. 17A staff member of Fukushima Prison has been taken into custody for engaging in obscene acts. Nikkan Gendai (Dec. 17) reports that Tomio Hirai, age 60, was arrested on suspicion of forcing a male convict to perform oral sex on him the previous October 18.

On December 14, Hirai was charged with violation of the special law applied to breach of duty by public officials, which prescribes penalties of up to seven years imprisonment.

Hirai would have reached the age of retirement next March. If the court finds him guilty as charged, it is expected he will undergo dismissal, which would also result in revocation of his pension. Read more

Sakai and Oshio cases leading to Tokyo ‘white powder sweep’

December 17, 2009

Shukan Taishu Dec. 21The high-profile drug arrests of singer-actress Noriko Sakai (“Nori P”), 38, and her 41-year-old husband, Yuichi Takaso, have prompted police to institute a “white powder sweep” through the notorious Tokyo entertainment areas of Roppongi and Shibuya, reports Shukan Taishu (Dec. 21).

Both Sakai and Takaso subsequently received suspended sentences, which have led some to question how seriously the cases were handled. “Considering their impact on society, they were treated very leniently,” says a representative within the legal community. “It would have made more sense for them to have served time.”

The police, apparently, feel likewise and, according to the article, have been utilizing undercover officers since the beginning of this month to institute street searches of pedestrians and crack down on neon-lit clubs and bars in Shibuya and Roppongi where methamphetamine distribution is known to be prevalent.
